Summary
The Sonoma County Agricultural Preservation and Open Space District (Ag + Open Space) permanently protects the diverse agricultural, natural resource, and scenic open space lands of Sonoma County for future generations. We are currently recruiting for a full-time Senior Stewardship Specialist (Senior Planner) – a critical team member who will serve in a lead role supporting the land conservation activities of Ag + Open Space. This position is assigned to Ag + Open Space’s Stewardship Program. This is an excellent opportunity to join a mission-driven organization with a passion for protecting lands that contribute to Sonoma County’s scenic beauty, local agriculture, native habitats and recreational lands.

Duties
The Senior Stewardship Specialist will be responsible for developing and managing complex easement and fee land stewardship projects. This position will review new easement language and baseline documents, and will coordinate and report on permitted use requests, amendments, and easement violations and related enforcement actions, including guiding, overseeing, and reviewing the work of assigned staff. The Senior Stewardship Specialist will assist in the development and enhancement of program policy and procedures, serve as a technical resource for both internal and external initiatives, and may serve as a liaison to various public, non-profit, and advisory groups and agencies. This position will work with staff across the organization to better support easement landowners with technical assistance and connection to resources, and to engage the public in the land conservation work of Ag + Open Space. The ideal candidate will be a positive leader, mentor, team player, and have excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Requirements
Any combination of education and work experience that would provide an opportunity to acquire the knowledge and abilities listed herein. Normally, this would include a Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent, with coursework in conservation planning, ecology, geography, environmental science, resource management, landscape architecture, or other related fields, and three years of experience involving increasingly responsible project management in open space planning, preferably in a governmental, non-profit land trust, land management, or similar organization. Significant coursework in and/or experience with GIS, graduate level study, and experience working in a lead capacity are highly desirable.

Application process
The job posting period is May 23 -June 15, 2022. All applications must be received by midnight, June 15th. Interviews for selected candidates will be held July 11th and 20th in Santa Rosa. Application instructions are provided on: www.governmentjobs.com/careers/sonoma
